Author's note:
"To write about the Tongass is to write about oneof the last best places left on the planet.  This is primarily a story about a forest... but to exclude the people of the area would leave only half the story told.  The Tlingit, Haida and Tsiminshian cultures spring from the soul of the rainforest.  It is with great respect and honor that we refer to their culture anf their cultural symbols."
